TAST stitch 76 is whipped chain stitch in 2 variations. TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday, an
embroidery challenge at Pin Tangle.
Until this week I only knew
one variation of whipped chain stitch. So I just had to make a sampler of both variations. The first variation is done
in perle 8 and whipped in Caron Wildflowers. The second variation is done in
perle 5 and whipped in wool. It reminds me of the magic chain stitch.
My first experiment was a
combo of both variations. I stitched chain stitch in perle 8 and alternated the
whipping in perle 12. One stitch in variation 1 and one stitch in variation 2.
I stitched variation 1 again in the second half of variation 2, which resulted
in a cross. I like how this turned out.
My next experiment was
with the open chain stitch, which is stitch 15 at Queenie’s Sunday Stitch School. I stitched open chain stitch in 2 threads of stranded floss and whipped
it in DMC perle 5 color variations. I used the second variation.
My last experiment is a
beaded variation. I used perle 5 for the
chain stitch and whipped it in perle 12 and 2mm beads.
All beautiful variations Annet. Isn't it wonderful how different the stitches look depending on the different threads you use? Christine x
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThanks, Christine. Yes it's so much fun to see the stitch change if you use a different thread!
VerwijderenFANTASTI work as always. You are so good at making new variations!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI really like the combo of two ways to whip the chain - it reminds me of a KUMIHIMO braid.
The whipped Open Chain really makes me think of Sinhalese Stitch, but I guess your version is easier. Anyway, GREAT result!
As for the beaded version, you could get so many different looks depending on the bead.
Thanks for always sharing your beautiful work, teaching us new ways and inspiring us too, to try alternatives and variations.
Thanks, Queenie. I didn't know the Sinhalese stitch, so I had to google it. It looks the same, but very difficult to do. This was very easy, as far as you can think of the open chain to be easy!
Verwijderenso much variety here
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThanks, Margaret. It was fun to experiment again.
VerwijderenThese are all very pretty, I like the beaded version.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThanks, Sheryl. I think the beads are a nice addition to this stitch.
VerwijderenChainstitch is a very very intereseting stitch. Did you ever try crested chainstitch? That is the one I recently discovered.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYou can find it on Mary Corbetts site.Yours are very pretty!
Ja, crested chain stitch heb ik veel gebruikt. Het is een hele leuke steek om mee te experimenteren. Hier vind je mijn experimenten:
