Work In Progress Wednesday - May 28

This week I embroidered TAST on the spine of the cover for my TAST 2012 fabric book.
I used the cross stitch patterns of this lovely alphabet,
which I found in this old magazine.

Old long tail chain stitch variations

TAST stitch 114 and 115 are variations with long tail chain stitches: plain, beaded and whipped. TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday, an embroidery challenge at Pin Tangle.

Today I want to share a few of my old samples of the long tail chain stitch.
Here I used it to decorate a border with fancy hem stitch and slipped detached chain stitch.
This is part of my lock stitch sampler for TAST 2010. I used the long tailed chain stitch instead of straight stitch and tied them with lock stitch to make some pretty bouquets.
Here I used long tailed chain stitch as a base for my cloud filling, I laced both parts of the stitch with different threads.
This flower is part of my floral sampler.
A whipped wheel with long tail chain stitches in Stef Francis perle 5.
My last sample is another whipped wheel, this time I used perle 8 on felt. It’s surrounded by Ermine stitches.
Just click the photos to take a closer look at my samplers.

Etui

Last week I wrote about the vintage pineapple doily I made for Miranda. Now it’s time to show what I received for the 1 item, simpel en snel swap. MamaEva made this pretty etui for me, perfect for my zentangle pens!
It has a cute matryoshka at the front, . . .
. . . pretty fabric at the inside . . .
 . . .  and a her own label!

Feathered chain & beaded feathered chain stitch

TAST stitch 112 and 113 are feathered chain and beaded feathered chain stitch. TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday, an embroidery challenge at Pin Tangle.
My sampler is stitched on 14 count Aida. The first 3 rows are done in perle 8, the last one in Caron Watercolors. The first row is stitched the way Sharon showed us. For the other rows I used the instructions in The Embroidery Stitch Bible.

Zigzag coral stitch

TAST stitch 111 is zigzag coral stitch. TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday,
an embroidery challenge at Pin Tangle.
My sampler is stitched on 17 count linen. The first row is done in Caron Watercolors, the others in perle 5. The third row is a woven zigzag coral stitch.
I forgot to take a few progress photos, but it’s woven the same way as double herringbone stitch. In the last row I added a bead between the stitches.

Work In Progress Wednesday - May 21

Yes, I managed to stitch all remaining names at the backside of the cover for my TAST 2012 fabric book! I only had to make some minor adaptations.

Rope stitch

TAST stitch 110 is rope stitch. TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday,
an embroidery challenge at Pin Tangle.

It was the perfect stitch for another seam on my CQ fan block.
First I drew I nice curvy line with one of Sharon B’s CQ stencils.
Then I stitched rope stitch with YLI silk buttonhole twist.
I liked the result, but this seam needed a little more.
Maybe a few sequins? I wasn’t sure, but these should be added when all seams are done, so I could wait.
The next day I flipped through a few embroidery books and found a row of beaded half buttonhole wheels in Bead embroidery stitch samples by Yasuku Endo.
I stitched my beaded buttonhole wheels in stranded floss.
I think this seam looks very nice on my block!
Take a closer look at my new seam here.

Another spread in my altered book Een stem van papier. The background is painted with acrylic paint. I decorated the edges with washi tape. The boots reminded me of this song, so I added the word WALK embroidered on cardstock.

Vintage pineapple doily

I crocheted a vintage pineapple doily for Miranda. I found the pattern online, but it's no longer available.

ATC Bookpage - blue

I was in an ATC swap were you had to use an old book page and the colour blue. The background of this ATC is a Dutch book page, painted with acrylic paint.
I stitched the letters with 2 threads of stranded floss and decorated them with a permanent marker and a gelly roll pen. I’ve sent it to Zsuzsanna in Hungary.
And this is the lovely ATC I received for this swap. It’s made by Satu in Finland. She also sent me the old book page at the background, great for another experiment. Thank you, Satu!

Work In Progress Wednesday - May 14

This week I stitched the names of 10 more stitches to the backside of the cover for my TAST 2012 fabric book. I’m halfway in stitch names and space on my Aida, so I’m hoping they all fit!

Old feathered chain stitches

TAST stitch 112 is feathered chain stitch. TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday, an embroidery challenge at Pin Tangle.

The first time I saw this stitch, was on an ATC I received. It inspired me to give it a try on my first Crazy Monday block. I used 2 threads of stranded floss.
The next time I used this stitch was on block 10 of the same quilt. I used 2 threads of stranded floss and decorated it with beads.
Last year I used this stitch on Ritva’s block for the CQ RR at Fibre Fever. The thread is perle 5, much better for the feathered chain stitch!
My stitches are a bit different from Sharon’s tutorial, I just used the instructions in The Embroidery Stitch Bible.

Scissor fobs

These scissor fobs were a gift for 3 dear stitching friends.

Square boss

TAST stitch 109 is square boss. TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday,
an embroidery challenge at Pin Tangle.

I’ve stitched my sampler on 14 count Aida. The threads are perle 12 and  cotton a broder. It’s a combo of square boss and square boss with an upright cross stitch, inspired by Queenie’s stitches.
It started with a row of cross stitches in perle 12.
Then I stitched upright cross stitches between them in cotton a broder.
Another progress photo, the normal square boss stitches are finished.
Take a closer look at my stitches here.

Work In Progress Wednesday - May 7

Yes, I managed to sew all pages for my TAST 2012 fabric book together.
The spine is 2 inch, it could stand without support for this photo.
It wasn’t easy to hold the pages in place while I was sewing them. Luckily I remembered the Clover Wonder Clips I bought recently, which gave me the
extra hand I needed!
And here are the last pages I added this week. There are bigger photos in
my TAST 2012 Flickr album if you want to take a closer look.
Now I could start on the backside of my cover. I’m stitching all names of the stitches in backstitch. The last one on the front page was BON of the name bonnet stitch, . . .
. . . so I started with NET STITCH and continued with up and down buttonhole stitch. There are 22 more names to add!
