ICAD

This year I’m participating in ICAD (Index Card A Day) for the 5th time. There’s a weekly theme with daily prompts, which you can find at Daisy Yellow. I share my cards on my Facebook blog and Instagram on the day I create them and write a weekly post with more info on this blog,

These are my cards for the 8th week, the theme was inspired by mandalas, circles & colour wheels.

Pinwheel was the prompt for day 50. I made a small origami pinwheel for the centre of my mandala.
The prompt for day 51 was blue or blueberry. I used a mandala from one of my colouring books for my index card.
Orbit was the prompt for day 52. I just made a doodle inspired by the prompt and theme.
I didn’t use the prompt for day 53, which was garden gate. Instead I used the bonus prompt, draw or collage a bird. My bird is inspired by the birds in my Moleskine pocket.
The prompt for day 54 was outline. I just drew a mandala and didn’t colour it.
For day 55 I combined the prompt (paisley) and the bonus prompt, again inspired by the birds in my Moleskine pocket.
Unfold was the prompt for day 56. I cut a circle from an old book page, folded it, cut the hearts and unfolded it to glue it on my decorated index card.
Now it’s time to start the last week.

De nieuwe wending uitdaging

Last year there was a quilting challenge at the Dutch Quiltersgilde. We had to experiment with 9 different blocks. I turned my blocks into a 26 x 26 inch quiltLast week I quilted 2 blocks of this quilt.

ICAD

This year I’m participating in ICAD (Index Card A Day) for the 5th time. There’s a weekly theme with daily prompts, which you can find at Daisy Yellow. I share my cards on my Facebook blog and Instagram on the day I create them and write a weekly post with more info on this blog.

These are my cards for the 7th week, the theme was inspired by patterns, wallpaper, tile floors, murals & tapestries.

The prompt for day 43 was bloom. I made a nice floral pattern, that could be a pretty tile floor.
Unravel was the prompt for day 44, which reminded me of knitting. I found a nice pattern and knitted it on a size 1,25 needle. The last row I knitted on a skewer, which I shortened to fit on my card. On the background I drew the knitting pattern and added a quote.
The prompt for day 45 was simplify. I used a very simple pattern for my card, which took more time than I expected.
I liked making patterns, so for the prompt of day 46 (diagram) I made an attic window inspired pattern and drew a tiny diagram in a larger part of my pattern.
Pencil was the prompt for day 47. I made 7 origami pencils and ‘used’ those to write the Dutch word for pencil.
Confetti or glitter was the prompt for day 48. I made a tessellating pattern with glitter gel pens.
I hope you can see the sparkle on the next photo.
Orchard was the last prompt for this week, but I didn’t use it. I wanted to use the bonus prompt: a one staple collage. I used wallpaper, music paper, a stamped book page, paper with apples from Flow (a Dutch magazine) and part of an empty matchbox.
Now it’s time to start the week 8, mandala week.

ICAD

This year I’m participating in ICAD (Index Card A Day) for the 5th time. There’s a weekly theme with daily prompts, which you can find at Daisy Yellow

These are my cards for the 6th week, the theme was:
inspired by natural elements, rust, dye, fibre, jute & thread.

The prompt for day 36 was ocean. I found a nice photo in a magazine and searched for another whale to embroider, which I found here. I stitched it on a scrap of Aida.
Hydrangea was the prompt for day 37. I knew I had a quilting fabric with hydrangeas on it, that was my starting point. I used a painted book page for the leaves. Of course I had to photograph my card on our Hydrangea!
The rust prompt for day 38 reminded me of a very old rust dying experiment. I wrote about it here. I still had parts of this fabric, so I could use it for my card. I decorated it with running stitches and buttonhole wheels in stranded floss.
I made a collage for day 39, the prompt was mirage.
Gradient was the prompt for day 40. I found a pretty background paper and wanted to add some embroidery. When I was looking for my threads, I found this needle weaving experiment. I made it for Stitch Explorer in 2009, I wrote about it here. I thought it was the perfect match for the fabric. The threads I used at the time where also in the bag, so I could use it for a border.
The prompt for day 41 was cinnamon or spice. Time to use one of the pretty teabags I had in my stash. I stitched it to a piece of jute with cross stitches. Then I decorated the jute with freestyle herringbone stitches with my mother's old mending wool.
The last prompt for this week was knot. The French knot is one of my favourite stitches, so that’s what I used on my card. I stitched many of them on felt with stranded floss. I added some bullion knots and fern stitches too. I decorated it with a few beaded sequins.
Now it’s time to start the week 7.
