Work In Progress Wednesday - August 27

There was not much time to stitch, my youngest daughter is visiting us for the second week. She’s learning how to crochet, so we spent a lot of fun time together.

Last Sunday I managed to stitch feathered chain stitch in perle 5 on one of the seams on block 3 for my Crazy White quilt.

Work In Progress Wednesday - August 20

This week I decorated 2 seams on block 3 for my Crazy White quilt. It’s the last block of the 4 blocks I prepared in 2012! My first seam was drawn with the help of Sharon’s CQ stencil. I stitched Portuguese stem stitch in perle 5. It will be decorated when all embroidery on the block is done.
Here I made a combo of detached chain stitch, pistil stitch, bullion knots and French knots. The thread is perle 8.

Closed herringbone or double backstitch

TAST stitch 124 is closed herringbone stitch. TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday, an embroidery challenge at Pin Tangle.

This stitch is not new to me, I used it from time to time as a filling stitch. You can see that in my ATC Blueprint and my embroidery Birth. Sharon wrote that if you stitched the closed herringbone on the back, you can use it for shadow work. So that’s what I did. First I read a lot about it. I found good info online:

But most of my info came from old Dutch embroidery books and magazines. I used the patterns from these magazines.
This leaf was a pattern for a curtain. Luckily I had a coupon of a polyester curtain. I stitched this leaf at the backside in closed herringbone stitch in cotton a broder #16. I secured my thread by weaving it through the threads at the edge, so it’s not visible in the project I’m going to use it for.
This pretty pattern was for a hanky. I used part of an old woman’s dress and 2 threads of stranded floss. I stitched the lines in backstitch on the good side and turned it into a whipped stem stitch at the back to secure my threads. This will be part of the same project as the leaf.
I took these photos when the embroidery was still in my hoop. The blue water soluble pen was not removed yet.
You can take a closer look at my embroidery  here and here.

Daisy

. . . is the name of my new dotee doll. I gave her a necklace of beaded herringbone stitch, which is TAST stitch 125. I didn’t use Sharon’s tutorial, but one of the samples in the RSN Bead Embroidery book by Shelley Cox. The thread goes through the bead twice. I used 2 threads of stranded floss.
I stitched feather stitch on her body with 2 threads of stranded floss and decorated it with small bugle beads.

Collage ATC

Last month I participated in a collage ATC swap. I made this fruit collage for Marjorie.
And Tosha made this pretty ATC for me with patterned fabric, paper and buttons. She called it Fun with Fabric.
Thank you Tosha!

Work In Progress Wednesday - August 13

When I wanted to add more beads to my block I finally saw it was already finished. Yesterday I damp stretched it.
Today I could take a nice photo of my finished block. Just click the photo to take a closer look.

Work In Progress Wednesday - August 6

It was time to add more beads to the second block for my Crazy White quilt
This is my finished floral spray.
I attached a butterfly charm.
And this is how my block looks now. I’m not sure if it’s finished.

Randje per week- update

Time flies, it has been 2 weeks since my last blog post. I had a bad fall and hurt my knee and elbow the day before my DH had surgery on his knee. So we were sitting side by side with our left legs on a pouffe. The first week I read a lot, but last week I started stitching again on my borders for Randje per week. These are randje 54 and 56.
They were the last borders on my second page.
These are the new small borders on my third page, randje 53 and 61-63.
At the bottom of the third page I stitched randje 60, I love this bold border!
There’s not much space left on my third page.
