Work In Progress Wednesday - April 30

I had hoped to be finished sewing the pages for my TAST 2012 fabric book together, but it didn’t happen. I managed to add 4 pages this week.

Old rope stitches

TAST stitch 110 is rope stitch. TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday,
an embroidery challenge at Pin Tangle.

Rope stitch is one of those stitches I use from time to time. Today I want to share a few of them. My first sample is the start of my TAST 2010 sampler. From top to bottom the threads are perle 5, a full thread of stranded floss from right to left, a full thread of stranded floss from left to right and a whipped rope stitch in perle 5.
This is a detail of the freestyle part of the same sampler. It has the rope stitch as Sharon showed us and the rope stitch I saw in Mary Corbet’s video. I decorated it with French knots and a pretty bead. You can take a closer look at this complete sampler at my Flickr page.
Here I stitched rope stitch on my last TAST 2010 sampler. The thread is
Stef Francis silk boucle, not the easiest thread for this stitch!
A progress photo of my embroidery Birth. There’s a rope stitch in perle 12
at the left side.
This last detail is part of my ornament Reply to Good Morning. I stitched rope stitch between the feather stitches in perle 8.
There are some amazing old samples of rope stitch from other participants in the Flickr TAST group.

Kikker ATC

This cute frog ATC is made by my dear friend Marjan. The background is watercolour, it was her first watercolour experiment with a little help from me.
She has more ATC’s to swap from that same experiment, just take a look here.

Looped Cretan & beaded looped Cretan stitch

TAST stitches 106 and 107 are looped Cretan and beaded looped Cretan stitch. TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday, an embroidery challenge at Pin Tangle.

I stitched my samples on 14 count Aida. From left to right the threads are perle 5, perle 8 and cotton a broder.
Here I stitched the loop in a different angle. The thread is Stef Francis perle 5.
A row in perle 12.
My beaded looped Cretan stitches. From left to right the threads are perle 5, Stef Francis perle 5 and perle 12. In the dark blue row I put the beads at the loops instead of between the stitches.
Take a closer look at my complete sampler here.

Alternating buttonholed cable chain stitch

TAST stitch 105 is alternating buttonholed cable chain stitch. TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday, an embroidery challenge at Pin Tangle.

I’ve used a variation of this stitch for the last seam on block 4 for my Crazy White quilt. It was inspired by the words in Queenie’s post. I just had to add the beads to the perle 5 thread!
So I made a BABCC-stitch, Beaded Alternating Buttonholed Cable Chain stitch is much too long!

Work In Progress Wednesday - April 23

This week  I started sewing the pages for my TAST 2012 fabric book together. The first 5 pages are the beginning of my 13 page book. I sewed 2,6 mm beads between the pages, one by one. It’s time consuming, but I enjoy watching my book grow with every page I add.

TAST 103 & 104

TAST stitch 103 is beaded butterfly chain stitch. I’ve used it for a seam on
my CQ fan block. The threads are cotton a broder and YLI silk buttonhole twist. The pretty beads were a gift from Maureen. This variation was inspired by an experiment on my brown sampler.
TAST stitch 104 is buttonholed cable chain stitch. It made another pretty seam on my CQ fan block. The thread is perle 5. I decorated it with 2,6 mm beads.
My CQ fan with the new seams.

Randje 29-31

These are the borders I made in the last few weeks. I skipped border 26-28 and continued with border 29 and 30.
Border 31 was 4 stitches tall, . . .
. . . just the right size to finish my first page.
More info about this SAL at Randje per week.

Work In Progress Wednesday - April 16

I finished the last 7 pages for my TAST 2012 fabric book, I only needed to zigzag the edges. Now I can sew the pages together and continue working on the cover.
I could write a lot about these pages, but it would be a very long post. If you want to read more about one of these samplers, just click the photo and it will take you to my Flickr page.

Old rice and square boss stitches

TAST stitch 108 is rice stitch and TAST stitch 109 is square boss. TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday, an embroidery challenge at Pin Tangle.

When I saw these new TAST stitches I knew I had some old samples to share.
I hope you enjoy them. My first samples are part of my TAST 2007 sampler, which I stitched in July 2009. I used stranded floss, 4 threads for the square boss and
2 and 4 threads for the rice stitch. This is a combo of both stitches.
A square of rice stitches in different colour combo’s on the same sampler.
An experiment with square boss in green and red.
Another experiment with square boss on the same sampler. I stitched the second part of the stitch in diamond shape.
Here I translated a cross stitch pattern to rice stitch, I doodled this little house myself (I don’t think I could call it a design!). Feel free to use it. This is the last detail on my TAST 2007 sampler, take a closer look at the complete sampler here.
This combo of Cretan stitch and square boss is part of my PLOS sampler for week 5. The threads are perle 5.
My last sample is a puzzle picture. It’s a detail of the canvas stitches on my embroidery Relief, which I made for Sharon’s sumptuous surface class. There are different canvas stitches, including scattered rice stitches. It’s stitched in Stef Francis spun silk with flames, a nice thread that changes in thickness and colour. The second thread is Rainbow Gallery Treasure Braid in shiny green. Shiny threads are hard to photograph!
There are more rice stitches in this purple part, you can see a larger detail here.

Another collage in my altered book Een stem van papier. It’s the last spread of the book, but it’s not finished yet. I randomly finish the pages, I think I’m halfway by now.

Beaded triangular buttonhole stitch

TAST stitch 102 is beaded triangular buttonhole stitch. TAST stands for Take A Stitch Tuesday, an embroidery challenge at Pin Tangle.
I used this stitch to decorate a seam on block 4 for my Crazy White quilt. I added slipped detached chain stitches and detached chain stitches in the valleys of the triangles. The threads are perle 8 and cotton a broder. Just click the photo to take a closer look at my stitches.
